La Foret du Temple - Surrounding area:

The property is situated in the Creuse department of the Limousin in the tranquil village of La Forêt Du Temple. The countryside is hilly with woods and lakes. The Creuse has no very large towns or heavy industry and the economy is dependent on farming and increasingly on tourism.There are several lakes within a short drive, with beaches where swimming and watersports are available. Fishing, walking and riding are also popular. La Forêt Du Temple is one of the smallest communes in France with only approximately 150 people in total in the village, the hamlets and the outlying farms which make up the commune. The presence of a Mairie in the village is very useful for administrative purposes and everyone has always been very friendly and helpful. The village derives its name from the former presence of a fortified Château and chapel of the Knights Templar. The present church is built around the remains of the chapel although nothing remains of the Château.

There are no shops in the village, although the baker’s van stops in the village daily, but the small town of Aigurande is only 7km away. Aigurande has a good range of shops, medical centre, vet etc. Primary schoolchildren go to school in Moutier Malcard which is about 5km away and older children to the college (middle school) in Aigurande. School buses collect children from various points en route. La Forêt du Temple is about an hour and a quarter drive from Limoges Airport and approximately a forty minute drive from Châteauroux station for trains to Paris (2 hours).
